Fear of Surveillance and Loss of Privacy

Surveillance poster and part of image montage intended to emulate a security station display with multiple screens
Although there were films that dealt with ideas of voyeurism, like Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’, I ultimately found that stronger visual associations with the idea existed in reality. As such this particular fear broke away from the rest of the series as it did not homage genre fiction, rather the filming of our everyday lives.

With the layout of the artwork I hoped to evoke the cluster screens of a security station. The artworks themselves depict a pervasive eye motif staring out at the viewer, having invaded everyday objects and familiar sights. The horizontal lines present were intended to emulate the effect of scanlines on a screen.

Nevertheless, ‘Nineteen Eighty –Four’  seemed an appropriate point of reference and I attempted to capture stark, harsh and uncompromising elements of the dystopia.
